I am sad to see that I missed the month of March. Besides working full-time I am also working on a thesis about integrating sustainability principles into high school classes.
This is a great tool. How might it be used to continue dialogues, discussions and undertakings in the GVRD area? What is the most cost effective means to advertise a once monthly gathering to keep discussions going? How can the presence of this forum be spread more broadly and thus continue to invite citizens?
Here are a few suggestions: * begin planning now * contact all of this years participants with an online survey to capture their ideas for next year * secure the budget commitments early * launch a much more orchestrated publicity campaign with a lot more runway than this year * rebuild the website NOW to act as a community hub and planning workspace to help people coordinate their efforts * hire an E.D. six or eight months prior to the event to execute the event That's it for now. More later if I can think of any.
1. Contact sustainability champions in other cities in Canada to join, organize, and host events, cafes, breakfasts, etc. in their respective locales. You've got one strongly motivated and passionate person who recently moved to Edmonton from Vancouver that would consider taking the reigns here with some guidance on how your organizers started this.
2. A one-day Sustainability festival in participating cities - music, art, speakers, presentations/displays, interactive venues, etc. (I know, this is a lot of work on its own!)
3. Government (whatever level) as a partner/sponsor.
